of the Lineage of "Boeger"

The Staatsarchiv Detmold is a rich source of searched history of the home and families from "Lippe and environs". It is remarkable how revealing former local searchers as Preuss, Schwanhold, Weber, and Richard Boeger studied the family history. The following remarks are maily taken from the sources of the Staatsarchiv Detmold, from the chronic of the village Augustdorf as well as from the notes of the churches.
The name:
The Boeger Family probably is the oldest
documentary of a farmer lineage of "Lippe". At 1200 a "Meier" (old german
word for 'manager of a farm') Hermann Biege lived in the smal village Hillentrup
who is regarded as lineage father of the widely ramified Boeger Family.
The above mentioned local searchers see the name "Boeger" with its
modifications such as Bieger, Biegher, Boger, Bogher, Boyer, Beuger,
Boiger coming from the little river "Bega" (which means 'bend') running
by. The oldest form of the name is Biege, Beiger, Boger which developed
documentary into Boiger, Beuger, Boeger.
History:
At 1200 lived some Hermann "Biege" Meier
zu Hillentrup (today perhaps: Meyer zu Doerentrup?). His son
Cordt
(Conradt) was a bold young lad who disliked the simple and rural life.
He joined the service of Graf (Earl) Volkwin III. zu Schwalenberg.
He
became a soldier and a well trained bowman. At 1225 the Archbishop of Cologne,
Engelbert, had been murdered during a journey by vassales of
Graf Friedrich
von Isenburg. Graf Volkwin III has been suspected. In the following
feud the Grafschaft Schwalenberg had been besieged by the army of
Cologne. In this siege bowman Cordt Boeger distinguished as a sharp
shooter so that the enemy for all siege could not took the castle.
Volkwin III rewarded Cordt Boeger
with the fiefs Barntrup, Blomberg, Bentrup and Silixen. The
fief near Silixen established the basis of today's "Boeger-Hof"
in Extertal (it is still existing today as a restaurant).
Cordt Boeger stayed in the army of
Volkwin
III. Whose son Heinrich I. buildt up the castle 'Sternberg'
at 1250. Cordt Boeger became 'Burgkastelan' (kind of estate/castle
manager) and died there at 1256.
The Descendants:
The descendants of Cordt Boeger run
the fiefs indepentently.
In the "Saalbuch" of 1591 a Johan Boeger
is mentioned to be the owner of the "Boeger-Hof" in Extertal
and
being the holder of a "Freiheitsprivileg" (privilege/right of freedom);
that
means he was not a serf.
At 1700 a Bernhard Boeger has been
the owner of the "Boeger-Hof". The yard/farm was also called "Boeger
vor dem Rohbraken" . To the "Gut Rohbraken" the Boegers
maintain old rights, too.
After that followed a Johann Friedrich
Boeger , he died 1716.
1896 the farm changed into the Cafe-Restaurant
"Boeger-Hof"
to which belong till today 22 Ha (54 acres) farmland and some fish-ponds.
The owner's name of today is still "Boeger".
It seems to be very unique that a name/family remains over 700 years to
a farm.
Numerous collateral lines have split from that old "Meier"-Family Boeger from Hillentrup and the gender of the bold soldier and wel trained bowman Cordt Boeger is related by marrieage to several old famer families from "Lippe". The descendants of Cordt Boeger established of the basis of the fiefs Barntrup, Blomberg, Bentrup, the collateral lines of the "Boeger" Family.
