Stadtlohn Review
and a little bit more
by Yogi Huelsken

For the first time ever I will try to write some kind of a review to yesterdays appearance of CdeB at the open-air-festival in Stadtlohn.
First I have to tell you, that the morning started quite right for me because when I entered the shopping-center at 8.00 h in the morning to buy something for breakfest the first song they played was "When I think of you". Of course I had nothing else in mind than "our man" and what this day will be like.
At 12.00 h we, Marietta and I, started our very short trip - Stadtlohn, a very small village with maybe 10.000 residents- is only 50 km away from Muenster, our hometown. It was a very sunny day and we´ve been singing CdeB in caraoke-style - from the tape in the car all the time. So we reached Stadtlohn in a very good mood and well prepaired to sing along in the evening. Leaving the car we heard a local band opening the festival - with some raggey-music; sorry, but it was awfully. When we entered the soccer-stadium, where the festival took place, we met up very fast with Ilka, Anja and Claudi Schreiber. Claudi managed it, to pass the entrence-security with 8 cans of guiness - well done Claudi. We sat together in one corner of the playing-ground, eating, drinking and having lot of fun together while listening to the music of another lokal band.
From 18.00 h on we managed it to get nearer to the fances standing in front of the stage in order to have a good place when CdeB will start his concert. But we had to wait just 3 1/2 h from now, because first
we had to stand two other appearances; the first was "Wonderwall", a girlie-teeny-group, and second the german pop-star "Jeanett Biedermann". Ohh friends, you should have seen all that teens around us waving their selve-painted pictures, huge red paper-hearts and all that stuff to the stage. But, let me consider, it was not a bad stage-act they did.
The only thing that got on our nerves was the fact that they needed more than 1 1/2 h to prepare the stage for the appearence of "Jeanett". So had we had to wait till 20.45 h , when they started to
prepare the stage for CdeB. Very funny to watch Chris Andrews, Kenny and Barry humming around like bees. When they started to test the guitars of the band we - our littel fan-corner - discovered somebody well known on stage we never expected to see - but I will tell you later who it was (see part II).
Thats for now. The concert-review will follow soon.
Stay in good mood.

Part II

so here I´m back with my trial to describe what has happened yesterday evening/night. Chris`s  concert has been announced "with band" - but what a band it was yesterday evening :-))))) - please wait a moment.
Well, he started with the band he had with him all the last band-tours, so it was

Gary Sanctuary/keyboards; left stage side ( back)
Tim Cansfield/solo-guitars; the left stage-side,
Alan Vosper/solo-guitars; right stage-side, hiding behind sun-glasses
David Levy/bass; behind Alan (most of the time)
and Tony Kiley/drums; center-stage behind Chris.

In the first part of the concert he did the songs as followed:

- Guilty Secret
- Living in the World
- Where we will be going
- Braveheart
- The Same Sun
- Saint Peter's Gate
- Lebanese Night
- The Best that Love can be
- Lady in Red

Chris´s voice was very clear and strong, the whole bunch on stage was in a very good mood, laughing and having fun with somebody "backstage" all the time. So far it has been a very good concert with a very dense atmosphere between Chris and the crowd in front of him.
At the end of "Lady in Red" Chris announced a "very special guest and "a very good friend of the band and an old favourite". But this man didn´t appeared on stage; Chris and the band were laughing about this, and so Chris had to start with another song as a "filler", so he did "Peaceful Waters" solo, because the band wasn´t prepaired for this song. Afterwards he started with 'Revolution' , with the band. When it came to part 2) of the trilogie, the "special guest" entered the stage and joined the band,it was:

Neil Taylor/solo-guitars

who is just touring Germany as a band-member of Robby Williams. He had a day off yesterday evening and did the trip to Stadtlohn.
Oh friends, you should have seen all that joy and happiness in the faces of all actors on stage and the reaction of the audiance who knew Neil as an old band-member of Chris´s band. Suddenly there has been
the feeling of real rock-music, just as Chris told the audience at the beginning of his show: "Oh, Chris de Burgh - that is soft-rock you fall asleep with!? I will show you, we will do a real rock-concert tonight and will have a good party." And that´s what it was yesterday
evening all the time.
Having finished "Revolution" Neil left the stage and Chris did

- Missing You  (with special dedication to Neil Taylor) , followed by
- Bal Masqué
- Ship to Shore and - too fast
- Ferryman.

The first encore was

- Say Goodbye to it All
- High On Emotion

the second encore was

- Snows of New York and - finally
- Hey Jude

all played with the full band and added with Neil Taylor.

We had such a good time on that real warm July-night, the full-moon rising on the left stage-side. But the best thing remembering was the fact that the whole audiance left the stadium singing and humming the chorus of " Hey Jude " long time after the end of the show.

That´s for now. Have as much fun reading this review as I had writing it in rememberance of that yesterday night.

Just huming along " Hey Jude "

Yogi
